There is a vast literature on rivers,
covering every conceivable topic from conservation to
adventure, water quality to dam engineering. Most
fascinating are the tales of river exploration, many of
them historic - such as the first descents of the
Nile and the
Kunene. I'd be happy to share my knowledge if you
get hold of me. Over the years I've accumulated quite a
library myself and am proud to have written two books
(so far) about rivers, with more to come. I've also
penned quite a few articles and have had something to do
with the filming of various expeditions and training
videos.
There are plenty of blogs too, so you
can keep up to date with what's going on out there. Go
to my
riverblog and you'll find plenty of references to
the world of river people and their doings. A good place
for the latest international buzz on boats, design and
expeditions is my son Corran's
Imagine site. He is one of the leading kayak
designers in the world today and has recently branched
out as a pioneer of the new sport of river surfing.
What I've decided to do here is
recommend local African river resources. Watch this page
for additions. If you want your site added, just
drop me a line!
