The Vaal in the Vredefort Dome is an ideal location for raft camping. It can only be described as “gorgeous” – in more than one sense. The river cuts its way through the beautiful Dome Bergland, or first ring of the meteorite crater. This consists of ridge after ridge of towering mountains which glide by as we paddle downriver.
There are many islands on the Vaal and several are suitable for raft camping. They are public land and very secluded from developments along the river.
